While Petr Cech is letting in penalties for fun, Wojciech Szczesny is on loan at Roma saving them.

Roma beat AC Milan 1-0 in Serie A on Monday in order to send them three points clear into second place (Milan are third).

They’re now just four points behind leaders, Juventus.

Woj saved a penalty in the 27th minute from M’baye Niang to keep the score at 0-0 before Radja Nainggolan scored in the 62nd.

The save comes just days after our current first choice goalkeeper let one in against Stoke at the Emirates.

Since 2011/12, Petr Cech has let in all 12 of the penalties awarded against the team he’s playing for. While Woj is proving to be quite capable, saving two, the other coming against Crotone’s Raffaele Palladino, this season so far alone.

Since 2011/12, Woj has saved eight penalties. Eight more than Cech.

Speaking after the win, the goalkeeper was level-headed about his big save, although admitted he had been studying Milan’s penalty talkers:

“What I felt when I saved the penalty? We had studied the Milan penalty takers in preparation and it”s paid off.”

Woj has become first choice ‘keeper while on loan at Roma and looks as if he’ll make a brilliant understudy for Cech while the former Chelsea man is at the club.
