Stoke boss, Mark Hughes, unsurprisingly agrees with Lee Mason’s penalty decision during his team’s trip to Arsenal.

Joe Allen and Granit Xhaka tangled in the box and the Stoke player fell to the ground. Mason promptly pointed for a spot-kick, sending the visitors 1-0 up before the half-hour mark.

Although Arsenal came back to win 3-1, Arsene Wenger was still pretty annoyed post-match.

“I was (annoyed),” Wenger revealed.

“We’ve had three penalties [against us] at home and not one of them was a penalty.

“But we have to live with it. Of course I was frustrated when it happened but at the end of the day we’ve can’t change the decision.”

Well, it’s hardly shocking, but Hughes sees it differently. He believes Xhaka ‘sideswiped’ Allen, saying:

“I thought he [Joe Allen] got sideswiped and was in possession of the ball in the box, my initial thought was it was a penalty.”

As you can see from the video, although there is contact with Xhaka’s elbow, Allen clearly has his arms around our midfielder.

Luckily, this decision didn’t prove too costly.
