As much as Arsenal love to ‘walk the ball into the net’ at times, we do score some rather gorgeous goals for our efforts.

Here are Arsenal’s top five goals of 2016 from a variety of players against a variety of teams.

#5 – Laurent Koscielny v Southampton (h) – 10 September 2016

After an 18th-minute own goal from Petr Cech, Arsenal needed to get back on level terms against the Saints at the Emirates. Luckily, Kos was on hand (or foot) to deliver and boy did he.

You’re lucky to see bicycle kicks from strikers but to see it from a centreback it’s practically unheard of.

The France international managed to lose his man in the box in order to knock down his assist from Lucas Perez and equalise.

Arsenal wouldn’t score again until the 90th minute when Santi Cazorla slotted home a penalty and helped earn his team all three points.

#4 – Aaron Ramsey v Spurs (a) – 5 March 2016

Back in March, Rambo opened the scoring for Arsenal at White Hart Lane with a lovely little backheel in the 39th minute.

With a neat assist from Hector Bellerin after a superb cross into the box from Danny Welbeck, it was exactly what the Gunners needed.

Spurs equalised in the second half through Toby Alderweireld and then went ahead minutes later through Harry Kane. However, it was our guy Alexis Sanchez who brought us back to level terms for the game to finish 2-2.

#3 – Granit Xhaka v Hull City (a) – 17 September 2016

Arsenal’s new defensive midfielder announced himself to the Premier League with a stunning thunderbolt of a strike away to Hull back in September.

The Gunners were already cruising having scored through Alexis twice and Theo Walcott, and despite Snodgrass’ consolation goal in the 79th minute, Xhaka decided to make it even worse for the home team by hitting and hoping in the 90th.

There’s no saving those.

The Switzerland international went on to score a very similar goal just days later in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest. We wont that match 4-0.

#2 – Alexis Sanchez v West Ham (a) – 3 December 2016

There’s no denying that Alexis has been unreal in 2016 but his hat-trick against West Ham at the beginning of December was simply sublime, with many comparing it to Dennis Bergkamp’s v Leicester City.

Although all three goals were wonderful in their own right, it was the third that caught everyone’s attention.

The forward ran through on goal, dancing past defenders with ease before chipping the ball over the keeper and into the net. He made it look so seamless, as if he could do it again and again without fail.

Despite struggling in the first half, Arsenal took the handbrake off in the second and ended up winning 5-1 thanks to our Chilean’s forward’s three goals.

#1 Mesut Ozil v Ludogorets (a) – 1 November 2016

The best goal of 2016 could only go to one man and that’s Mesut Ozil.

With Arsenal drawing 2-2 against Ludogorets away and just minutes left on the clock, our midfield genius, who’d scored a hat-trick when they visited us, danced through one-on-one on goal.

He skipped back one… two… three opposition players, including a chip over the goalkeeper, sending men sliding all over the pitch, before coolly slotting it home and sending the traveling fans into ecstasy.

A stunning goal from a phenomenal footballer.

Arsenal went on to hold onto their 3-2 win and eventually top their Champions League group.
