Although there’s no question that Petr Cech is, or at least once was, one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, his lack of saved penalties is disturbing.

On Saturday, Stoke were given a contentious penalty after Joe Allen and Granit Xhaka grappled in the box. Straight away, not one Gooner thought that the former Chelsea star would save it.

Therefore, when Charlie Adam stepped up and sent Cech the wrong way, allowing the visitors to take a 29th-minute lead, no one was really surprised.

Why? Because Cech has faced 12 penalties since 2011/12 and has failed to save ANY of them.

So, why is the goalkeeper failing to save spot-kicks? It’s hard to say as this is something he’s been unable to do since playing for Chelsea.

However, what is clear is that the big guy needs to start learning if teams are going to continue to be gifted them against us.
