While Shkodran Mustafi, Danny Welbeck and Chuba Akpom all trained with the main squad ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day, two others didn’t.

Welbz (knee) and Akpom (back) returned to full training recently and it’s great to see them continuing their rehabilitation ahead of the Premier League clash against the Eagles. Neither will feature, since both have been out of action for a while, but they’re obviously making positive steps.

However, Mustafi (hamstring), who was due back soon, has also returned to first team training it seems. Although we’ll probably stick with Gabriel for the Palace match, since Arsene Wenger understandably likes to be cautious these days, I imagine we’ll see him soon.

What is slightly concerning is that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (calf) apparently didn’t train with the rest of the squad, suggesting that they’re not quite fit yet.

The Ox limped off in the second half against Manchester City having pulled his hamstring, although Wenger said he would be out for a matter of days not weeks. While, the boss was also eager to stress that Theo’s calf problem wasn’t serious.

They might both be left out against Palace as a precaution but there’s no need to panic quite yet.
