Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has hailed Arsenal’s super-subs this season.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the forward praised the focus the subs must have to come on and turn the game around that late on.

“I’ve seen a stat that a lot of our goals and assists this season have come from substitutes, and that shows that everyone is really focused,” he said.

“When the boys that aren’t starting but are coming on, they’re focused and are adding to the team. If you keep doing that through the season, it makes a massive difference.”

The 23-year-old might as well be patting himself on the back considering the majority of his appearances so far this season have been off the bench and, to be fair, apart from a bumpy patch at the start, he’s been decent.

Out of 19 appearances in all competitions, the Ox has only played two full matches and made nine starts, which includes two in the EFL Cup.

However, he’s managed to score five and assist four.

When he came on against his former team, Southampton, in the 62nd minute midweek, he was one of the few bright sparks and it’s fair to question whether if he’d started we would have still lost 2-0 and crashed out of the EFL Cup.

Could the winger be rewarded with a rare start against West Ham on Saturday evening?

We’ll have to wait and see.
