Reports linking Olivier Giroud to Marseille are apparently unfounded.

According to GFFN’s Twitter, recent claims that the striker could be returning to Ligue 1 to play for Marseille aren’t true.

Now, while that’s reassuring to hear since it would be a shame if the France international left, the only Arsenal player I’ve seen linked with a move to Marseille is Mathieu Debuchy.

In fact, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot linking Giroud anywhere.

Interesting.

Giroud is out of contract in 2018 and while Arsene Wenger claims he wants the 30-year-old to sign an extension with Arsenal, he admitted that the player will have to make his peace with the way we do things ie not starting every game when we have someone like Alexis Sanchez in fine form.

“We are in a world where you have to know where you want to be and in my case I want Giroud to stay, I want Giroud to extend his contract,” Wenger said.

“After, he has to live with the competition, and for me he is a very important player at the club, on the pitch and off the pitch. I want him to stay, he has to decide if he can live with what is going on but personally I like Giroud very much.”

The big guy’s agent recently spoke about rumours that Giroud could leave and while he said he wants to complete this season in north London, they didn’t exactly fill anyone with confidence that he won’t move next summer.

“He’s great with the Gunners. He wants to end this season with the Londoners,” Giroud’s agent, Michael Manuello, said.

“We are not going to move in the next session of the market.”

It’ll be a shame to see him go.
