Mesut Ozil, or at least his representatives, took to Twitter following Arsenal’s 5-1 Premier League victory over West Ham on Saturday.

The German international was the first to get on the scoresheet with a classy tap-in provided by Man of the Match, Alexis Sanchez.

After the match, Ozil tweeted that Arsenal needed that win in order to keep the pressure on Chelsea. The Blues beat Manchester City 3-1 earlier on Saturday afternoon, sending them six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

If Arsenal hadn’t beat West Ham, a gap would have opened up, which is not what we want. Obviously.

However, that 5-1 win wasn’t just needed in order to close the gap on the league leaders.

Despite beating Bournemouth 3-1 last weekend, Arsenal’s Premier League performances recently have been lacklustre.

We were lucky to grab a point at Old Trafford and only managed to draw against Spurs at home in the north London derby before that.

This emphatic win, even though we could have played better, will hopefully propel us forward.
