Jack Wilshere made the headlines on Tuesday evening for all the right reasons: starting against Leicester meant he had played more Premier League minutes on loan on the south Coast this season than the previous two injury-ravaged campaigns at Arsenal, just reiterating how beneficial his loan spell away from the Emirates has been thus far.

Operating in a central midfield role alongside Harry Arter, he showed positional intelligence on a number of occasions to play in a deeper role when many of his teammates drove forward into the final third.

This was effective in helping to ensure Leicester’s counter-attacking tactic wasn’t as influential as it has been in the past, providing protection for the backline when defending out of possession.

On the odd occasions he did get forward, he came close with contributions that were conjured up. His low effort after 20 minutes was well-struck and forced a sharp diving stop from goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Always looking to get the ball to his feet in promising situations, he was constantly looking up for space to tee up his teammates. Combining well with Simon Francis on the right-hand side, this proved important as it stretched Leicester’s defenders out wider to try and dispossess, resulting in Bournemouth’s goal and they could’ve got another in the second-half too from a similar passing move.

All-in-all, it was another encouraging individual display from a player that continues to improve and his significance for Bournemouth is ever-growing too.
