Arsenal managed to grab all three points against West Brom on Boxing Day but it was far from an inspiring performance.

How did the players do individually?

Petr Cech 7

Was able to sleep off his Christmas dinner in peace, barely troubled by the West Brom front line.

Hector Bellerin 7

Played almost the entire match as a right-sided midfielder. Had a chance near the end to open the scoring but headed the ball like a defender.

Gabriel 7

Lucky to escape a card in the 10th minute after a stupid two-footed tackle. Had little to do, but did it well.

Laurent Koscielny 7.5

Shook off an early knock to deal with what little attacking threat West Brom offered. 16 ball recoveries.

Kieran Gibbs 7

Booked for a poor tackle which also saw him injure himself. Only Mesut Ozil created more chances.

Francis Coquelin 6.5

Depending on who you listen to was either Arsenal’s best player in the first half or was so bad he should never be seen again. Still polarising opinion, he was neither great nor awful. He was just Francis Coquelin and we were better when he went off. Just saying…

Granit Xhaka 7.5

Kept shooting, kept the ball moving forward, kept possession. Was the best passer with 133 complete from 140 attempted.

Alexis 8

Standard 100mph performance from the Chilean, hit the post, forced saves. Seven shots, three on target.

Mesut Ozil 7.5

Making his 100th Premier League appearance, he seemed to have a poor game but then I checked some stats That’s the thing with Mesut, ordinary human eyes aren’t always enough to fully appreciate him. 104 out of 118 passes completed, 87 of them in the attacking third, he created six chances and grabbed the assist.

Alex Iwobi 6

Not much is coming off for him these days and against West Brom, things were no different. Worked to make something happen more than many senior counterparts, though.

Olivier Giroud 6.5

His first Premier League start of the season and got himself booked for being petulant. Again. Should have had a penalty before that but, you know, Arsenal. Was generally poor apart from his goal which is probably not a good long term strategy for staying in the team.

Subs

Nacho Monreal 6

Came on after 70 minutes for his 150th Arsenal appearance.

Lucas 6.5

Should have had an assist with a fierce daisy-cutter cross, forced a good save from Foster and generally hustled loads.

Aaron Ramsey 6

The game opened up when he came on for Coquelin.
