Julian Draxler could well be on the move this winter despite it seeming like Wolfsburg wanted to hold on until the summer when his €75m release clause activates.

I have to be honest, I didn’t think there was any chance of him moving when the window opens in January but reports from Germany seem to think there is now no option for Wolfsburg but to sell the player who has made it perfectly clear he wants to leave.

There is no way that they will get €75m for him in January so they are stuck with a stark choice – take a far lower fee or keep a player who wants to leave and is being booed by his own fans.

Is it worth it for them to keep an underperforming player for another six months? His wages won’t be that much of a burden – they are significantly lower in Germany for the most part, but what would it do having an influence that could be seen as disruptive around the club?

A report in Bild said this about Arsenal and Draxler – “There, his mate Mesut Özil plays (the two made holiday after the EM). In the 4-2-3-1 system Draxler could play on the left, Ozil in the middle. The offensive style of the Wenger team is best suited to Draxler.”

Bild also list Juventus and PSG as possible suitors however it is only Arsenal with whom the paper thinks he fits. They merely talk about the others in terms of if they could afford him and if they want him.

I’m still to be convinced that this move will happen in January but I’m more than a little happy to be proved wrong.
