The French winger was interviewed by World Cup winner and Birmingham legend, Christophe Dugarry, and was asked about the apparent interest from Arsenal.

Here is the video and the main chat about Arsenal from 04:25

Dugarry starts by mentioning a quote attributed to Arsene Wenger who is alleged to have said that, “Payet was the missing piece in the Arsenal puzzle.”

I don’t know where that quote comes from, but I had never heard it from the Arsenal manager. Both players, say they read the quote, but also that Wenger did not tell them directly about it and laugh.

The France winger is then asked his opinion about the Arsenal:

“Well, we let in five or six goals at home” with Dugarry adding “it could have been 12 as well” to which Payet replies:

“That’s true, when you see the way Arsenal play, when you are the kind of player who likes to play with the ball, one can only have fun in that team.”

He then speaks about his relationship with West Ham and his manager, as well as a potential move.

“I am lucky enough to have a good relationship with my coach Bilic, who is a former player, and who understands things and that today’s situation does not suit me.”

He is obviously not happy about West Ham being in the relegation battle earlier in the season and in the bottom side of the Premier League table as of now.

“But it does not stop me from working hard, it is part and parcel of the job, to be able to deal with tough situations. You can see this happening for the big teams as well. You have to rise above it, and work hard to bounce back. I will ask the important questions at the right time.”

Then comes the hint of a potential move, should things not improve at West Ham:

“I am an ambitious person and obviously I miss playing at the top European football level  like in the Champions League. I am not closing the door to anyone.”

But he is clearly commited to get West Ham out of trouble.

“Today we are in a fight  and I am giving everything I have to get us out of that difficult situation. I still have a few good years ahead of me and I want to play important games during those remaining years.”

Overall, it does not look like this interview was a come and get me plea to Arsenal, but more like any ambitious team that plays in the Champions League is interesting and a move is a strong possibility in the future.
