Joel Campbell, currently on his fifth loan spell away from the Emirates, has impressed in patches of good form for Sporting.

The 24-year-old Costa Rican winger has sparked debate amongst Arsenal supporters about whether he should’ve even go on loan again in the summer. However, he has shown his ability in moments of individual brilliance, whilst managing to struggle in other areas, suggesting his levels of maturity as a player are not yet quite at the level that justifies Wenger’s trust in him.

According to a recent report on SportWitness, Sporting are eager to keep hold of the winger and having made efforts to try and integrate him into a regular first-team player, it’s understandable to see that they would want to keep him beyond the end of this current season.

Campbell turns 25 in late June and upon returning to north London, will have a year left on his contract. Considering the breadth of attacking talent in Arsenal’s senior side, it’s not hard to believe Campbell will leave the club on a permanent basis if he is not afforded regular first team opportunities.

Having featured regularly under Jorge Jesus this term, he has played in all but two of their Liga NOS matches thus far whilst racking up four more Champions League appearances to his name too.

With six goals and an assist to his name for club and country this season, Campbell has done his reputation no harm and will be aiming for more consistency in the final third to continue playing regularly for the remainder of the campaign.

Whether he’s given another chance at Arsenal though, remains to be seen.
