As we rush towards January, attentions have already turned to what players Arsene Wenger could possibly recruit when the transfer window opens.

Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of Boxing Day’s game, Wenger was asked if his returning players (Welbeck, mostly) meant that he didn’t have to dip into the transfer market.

“Of course, because suddenly we have Perez, we have Giroud we have Sanchez, we have Welbeck, suddenly up front, Walcott, Chamberlain who is nearly a striker, so we have plenty of options offensively,” Wenger replied.

He was then asked about his options defensively to which he replied, “Defensively we are not in the need at the moment.”

So. There you go. Wenger doesn’t think we need a defender, and says we have plenty of attacking options.

That does leave the option of a new midfielder open. Or a goalkeeper.

We are said to be in talks with Sunderland over Jordan Pickford and we know that Arsene just can’t help himself when it comes to midfielders.
