Arsenal have taken having ‘mental strength’ to the next level by hiring a new club psychologist, Dr Ceri Evans.

Evans has previously worked with the All Blacks rugby team, who went on the win the world cup, and it seems his newest venture is to instill some mental toughness into the current Arsenal squad.

Although it was previously reported that Theo Walcott was seeing a psychologist as part of his reinvention this season, it’s good to see the whole squad taking part.

“We are always looking for new ways to progress and continue competing at the top of the game,” a spokesperson for Arsenal said.

“This involves every aspect of the way we work with our players and this is part of that continuous improvement. We will not discuss any detail of this work.”

Whether our solid form this season can be credited to this, we obviously don’t know. However, I’m sure that having someone to help them deal with stress both on and off the pitch, as well as pressure and the mental side of injuries, can only be a good thing.

Mental health is just as important as physical well being and having Evans on board can help take care of the issues the physios can’t.
