According to reports, Arsenal have missed out on signing 19-year-old Charlton Athletic forward, Ademola Lookman, to Everton.

The Toffees have apparently agreed to pay £10m for the League One goalscorer, who they have been heavily linked with recently.

The main reason seventh-place Everton apparently want the youngster is as a replacement for the injured Yannick Bolasie, who is now out for the season after doing his cruciate knee ligaments during his teams’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United on 4 December.

Although Bolasie is ‘only’ out for nine months and therefore will, in theory, return, buying Lookman could be a long-term investment considering his quality.

The teenager has already scored five League One goals and assisted two in 21 appearances for Charlton this season, and scored two in three FA Cup ties.

Were Arsenal ever really interested? Quite possibly. However, as we’ve always said, Everton need him far more than we do. If we’re going to sign a new forward this January, it most likely won’t be someone inexperienced who will just end up behind Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
