Arsene Wenger met with the press on Friday and gave updates on the state of his squad before the game on New Year’s Day against Crystal Palace.

There are a few unnamed players struggling with ‘flu.

Kieran Gibbs

Gibbs is out with the knee injury he picked up against West Brom when he collided, knee-on-knee, in the second half. He’s had a scan and Wenger expects him to be out for ‘days’ rather than anything long-term. He will not, however, be back for the game on Sunday.

Theo Walcott

Walcott’s short-term calf injury will keep him out of his second game of the festive period as he will not return to face Palace.

Shkodran Mustafi

Is fit, back in training and available for selection.

Danny Welbeck

Back in full training, Arsene Wenger is still debating whether he will give Danny a run out with the u23s before including him in the first team squad. Wenger also said, “He’s fit, he’s sharp…in training he looks quite good.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsene Wenger stated that the Ox could return to training on Saturday. No journalist asked about him at the pre-Palace press conference and Wenger never mentioned him apart from to dismiss any truth to the rumours that Liverpool are interested in signing him.

Chuba Akpom

Back in training but not match-fit.

Santi Cazorla

Out.

Per Mertesacker

Back in training but not match-fit.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny will be jetting off after the game against Palace to meet up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations. He is expected to miss at least four Arsenal games.
