PSG manager, Unai Emery, has explained the importance of the Champions League clash against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The Ligue 1 club sit third in their table, level on points with second place Monaco and three points behind Nice at the top. Not exactly where they want to be but it’s still early days.

At the weekend, they beat Nantes 2-0, giving them a bounce in their step as they head over to north London and before that, they beat Rennes 4-0.

Speaking ahead of his team’s trip to the Emirates midweek, Emery explained how important the Champions League is to the club, although the French league is really where they learn the most.

“The Champions League is obviously very important for the club,” he said.

“We will play for first place against Arsenal, which is the right path for us in this competition. But to me, the most important is work to do to improve all these details, which, put together, make the best team.

“The Champions League is where the team’s credibility is looked at.

“But to improve nothing beats the Championship (Ligue 1), the regularity imposed by its 38 days. Of course, we have to win the Ligue 1, which also allows to be better prepared for the Champions League.”

Arsenal drew with PSG 1-1 in the reverse fixture and, therefore, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t win on our turf. Well, except for the fact we seem to be noticeably worse at home.

We’re unbeaten in Europe so far this season. Let’s keep it that way.
