Wojciech Szczesny was in high spirits when he gave an interview to the Polish media and explained why his loan move has been so useful.

The goalkeeper, who is currently enjoying his second season on loan at Roma, believes he’s in the best shape of his career and admitted that he’s learned a lot while in Italy.

“Definitely yes [I’m developing at Roma],” he said to Polish outlet, Laczy nas Pilka.

“I feel great – physically the best during my career. I’ve learned a lot in Italy; I’m certainly not wasting time here.”

When asked about how English and Italian football is different, the goalkeeper claims it’s all in the preparation.

“Oh boy, we could talk about it for hours! We have little time, and the differences are really big. The most important issue is tactical preparation, the game on the defensive and offensive.”

The 26-year-old has started all 12 Serie A matches so far this season. He’s only let in 12 goals and has kept four clean sheets, helping Roma reach second in the league table just four points off Juventus in first.

To put this into perspective, Petr Cech has let in 11 for Arsenal in as many appearances this term and has kept the same amount of clean sheets in the Premier League as Woj has in Italy. Not only this but during Woj’s last season with us before going out on loan, he only kept three clean sheets in 17 appearances during the whole campaign.

It’s clear that the Poland international is seriously improving while away. Let’s hope he still wants to return to us once he’s finished.
