Francis Coquelin has revealed that both Yaya Sanogo and Jeff Reine-Adelaide are both PSG fans.

To be fair, the most surprising part of his statement is the confirmed existence of Yaya Sanogo.

Well, that’s not entirely true, as we recently discussed when we spotted the forward was alive, but it’s still odd to hear him mentioned as if he’s a real thing.

Speaking to the matchday programme, Le Coq was asked if any of the Arsenal players were PSG fans.

“Well, at the time between my friends it was always Paris and Marseille,” Coquelin said.

“Didier Drogba was playing for Marseille and I used to really like him.

“The team, the stadium, the atmosphere – that’s what made me become a Marseille fan.

“They were the two main teams when I was growing up, and were bringing quality players, along with Lyon as well. But I think that the two teams that were standing out were probably Paris and Marseille.

“Obviously the likes of Drogba, Ribery, Nasri were coming through at Marseille and it was a great pleasure to watch them play.

“Then at PSG a little while before you had the likes of Arteta, Ronaldinho, Pochettino.

“Yaya Sanogo is a PSG fan and Jeff likes them as well I think.

“You know, it’s a strong team.

“Back in the days it was more like one star and the rest were good players, but now there are stars everywhere in the team. That’s what probably makes Paris a little bit different to in recent years.”

Arsenal already know that they are through to the knock-out phases for their annual Last 16 dump-out, but after two draws in their last two big matches, they will surely be looking for all three points on Wednesday night.

Not only that, there is the small matter of topping the group even if that looks less important this season due to the strength of the teams in the other groups.

Plus we have a point to make. We’ve been poor in our last two games and weren’t much better in Paris. A win coupled with a strong display will go a long way to soothing November’s pain.
