Former Arsenal man, Robert Pires, claims he really wants to become Arsenal’s sporting director.

Pires is still a regular face at London Colney. He’s on good terms with the club, staff, players and Arsene Wenger. Therefore, it’s probably not that much of a shock that he wants to continue working for Arsenal in some capacity.

In fact, he wants to become sporting director one day.

“Yes, that is my objective,” he revealed.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I need to talk about it with the owners and Arsene Wenger. I’d love this job, I love to talk with the players.

“If I’m given this job one day, I can stay in contact with football, especially with Arsenal.

“I have a good relationship with the manager, that’s important.

“I can work with the players, I can give advice to the young players, so we can find a good relationship between me and the players.

“I’m lucky because I’m still training with the first team sometimes. I maintain a good relation with the players and manager Arsene Wenger.”

It’d be brilliant to have a legend as one of the board members since we can definitively say that he has the club’s best interests at heart. Obviously, however, this won’t be immediate if the club do decide to have him on board but the fans definitely wouldn’t object.

It’s interesting to hear a former player talk about becoming a sporting director rather than a coach, which is usually the step most want to take. In fact, the Frenchman claims to have no plans to become a manager any time soon so that rules him out of the running to be the next Arsenal boss, which, according to online casinos and igaming is still Eddie Howe.

It seems as it Pires would rather talk to the players behind the scenes and help that way, rather than from the sidelines.
