Former Spurs boss and dog enthusiast, Harry Redknapp, has gone and done it again; he’s predicted that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this season.

It’s been 21 years since Spurs last finished above Arsenal. They’ve not managed it since Arsene Wenger took charge; they’ve not managed it when they’ve had Gareth Bale and they’ve not managed it since Mauricio Pochettino took over in 2014.

Hell, we even attempted to hand it to them last season but they lost spectacularly to newly relegated Newcastle on the final day of the season, allowing our 4-0 win over Aston Villa to push us up to second.

Yet, every season it’s the same. Pundits, players old and new, former managers and fans claim that this is the season that Spurs will finally finish above Arsenal.

They usually fart out some comments about a power shift, talk about Spurs’ pressing and how Poch’ has them ‘looking like a proper team’.

And have they ever finished above us? No. Not for 21 years.

So, you do have to wonder what Redknapp’s thought process behind his recent comments is.

“The North London (derby) is always a special game between Arsenal and Tottenham,” Redknapp said.

“It’s like all derby games really. It’s a fierce game, it’s like Everton v Liverpool, Glasgow Rangers v Celtic, Man United v Man City, or Man United v Liverpool is a fierce game as well.

“There are so many derby games, but the North London derby, in London, is the big derby game in London football.

“Both teams love to have one over on the opposition. Every year it’s a great game, they’re two evenly matched team now.

“Arsenal have had the upper hand for so many years, just about, the last six or seven years Tottenham have got closer and closer.

“And I think this year could be the year that Tottenham finish above Arsenal.”

And with that, he rolled up his car window and sped off.

When will people learn?

The first north London derby of the season takes place on Sunday. We’ll see if he’s still saying they can finish ahead of us then.
