Despite putting in a rusty performance against Ludogorets in the Champions League, Aaron Ramsey showed plenty of signs that we have lots to look forward to.

The midfielder started on the right and you could tell that his on-pitch partnership with fullback Carl Jenkinson needs work. A couple of times his passes were a bit wayward.

Saying this, there were occasions, particularly in the first half when his legs were a bit fresher, that he linked up really well.

He had a habit of roaming around a bit, drifting a little too centrally, but this is probably just down to him feeling his way into the game. He’s been out since August so it’ll take some time.

Ramsey’s natural ability, however, was demonstrated in his stats.

The Welshman made the third most passes, 74, with 65 finding their intended man. He also made the most successful passes in the final third: 18 (out of 26). This was one more than Alexis or Mesut Ozil.

He also created a chance, a lovely assist for Olivier Giroud’s goal (that’s two in two), to bring us equal with Ludogorets, and won three out of five take-ons.

As you can see, despite there being numerous cautious sideways passes, he was also really creative.

You could tell Ramsey began to feel tired in the 70th minute when he tried a cheeky long range pass that didn’t come off. He was subbed off five minutes later.

Although the 25-year-old tried to over-complicate passes at points and was a little rusty, the building blocks are still very much there. With time and fitness, he can definitely return to the player we all know he is.

It’s doubtful that he’ll get much – if any – game time against Spurs on Sunday but having him back after so long out is a huge boost.
