Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have finally made a shortlist for being good footballers!

The two stars, who both got snubbed in this year’s Ballon d’Or 30-man shortlist, have been included on FIFA’s new ‘Men’s Best Player’ one.

So what’s the difference between the Ballon d’Or and these new FIFA awards? Well, they started off as separate awards but France Football and FIFA decided to merge in 2010 and just hand out one award instead of two a year.

However, now they’ve decided to separate again as FIFA wanted to revert to their old voting system, which includes managers, captains and journalists so that we get different winners who don’t go by the names of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. While France Football didn’t.

FIFA have also now added the fan vote; 25% for the women’s award and 20% for the men’s.

Well, at least FIFA recognise the geniuses that are Alexis and Ozil and good luck to both in the competition.

Not entirely sure what Zlatan and Buffon are doing in there but I guess we can let that slide if one of our lads wins it.
