Nacho Monreal spoke to Marca recently and claimed that he’s happy at Arsenal, while other reports say he’s not shut the door on Athletic Bilbao, who have been linked with him a couple of times.

The La Liga club are said to be very interested in the left-back who has been consistently solid for Arsenal except for this season when he’s been a little off the pace.

“I do not close the door to anyone,” he said, reports Fichajes.

“I’ve heard wonders of Athletic.”

Despite this, he told Marca that he’s happy at Arsenal despite it taking him a little while to find his feet.

“I am very happy. Malaga was very difficult to leave because people treated me great and I lived well. But when you get a call from a team like Arsenal you do not think. I played and it went well.

“The beginning was very hard, I had to acclimatise. It was another country, another city, another language, another culture, another style of football. You start from scratch. In that sense I am a player who has trouble conforming. It has always happened to me. I suffered a lot, but I have been settled and I am delighted.”

Nacho is 30 now and although his contract is north London runs out in 2019, I wonder if he’ll stay at the club until then.

Although the fullback has played 12 times for us this season so far, he recently lost his place in the starting lineup to Kieran Gibbs after the Spaniard failed to keep up with key matches and made silly mistakes.

Nacho is currently away with the Spain squad after getting his first call-up since 2013.
