After proving that he’s actually very capable in front of goal this season, Mesut Ozil has spoken about what Arsene Wenger has asked him since he joined in 2013.

The German has scored seven goals in all competitions so far this season, only one more than he netted over the entire duration of last term.

Although he’s still assisted four and is a huge part of our creativity going forward, adding this extra string to his bow has been massive both for the team and Ozil’s confidence.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the 28-year-old revealed how Wenger has been pushing him to get 10+ goals a season for a while.

“The manager wants me to score lots of goals,” he said.

“He sees in training that when I have a chance, the ball mostly goes in.

“When we train on finishing, he sees that I score lots of goals. He knows that I’m ice-cold in front of goal and he wants to see that in matches.”

He added, “Every year he comes to me says, ‘You need to score more than 10 goals this season – that needs to be your aim because you have the quality’. I’m trying to take that on.”

Now, it finally looks as if Ozil will get over 10 goals this season, unless something goes terribly wrong.

It goes to show that although people seem to believe that the boss is complacent and lets his players get away with murder, behind the scenes he pushes them in order to get the best out of them.

And it seems to pay off.
