Mesut Ozil has revealed that part of the reason he signed for Arsenal from Real Madrid is because he knew he could develop further under Arsene Wenger.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, the German made the startling revelation that he’s not perfect and he’s actually working on playing with both feet more convincingly.

“I think it’s really important [to keep working],” the 28-year-old said.

“If you want to develop as a footballer, you have to work on your weaknesses every day.

“You have to have talent but of course nobody is perfect, and you have to work hard to minimise those weaknesses as well as you can. I’m working hard on that – for example, I’m not ambidextrous, so I’m working on my right foot too.

“Especially if you play in the Premier League, you have to look after your body because the matches are very demanding and you have plenty of matches. That’s why you have to work hard, to make sure you stay fit.

“I knew that if I moved to Arsenal, I would develop myself further, especially under the boss. I’m on a good way, the team really supports me, the manager gives me his trust and you see that I enjoy myself on the pitch.”

The only proper two-footed player we have at Arsenal is Santi Cazorla and it’s a huge advantage. He can take corners from anywhere, shoot from anywhere, create from anywhere. Can you imagine if Ozil could do that too?

The playmaker is currently having a well-earned rest after Germany boss, Joachim Löw, ‘dropped’ him from the national team. Obviously, by ‘dropped’ it means Wenger’s probably had a word and Ozil’s recuperating at home.

Once again, however, we’re reminded that Wenger was a massive reason why Ozil came to Arsenal in the first place and I feel that if he signs a new contract, this is a sign the boss will extend his too.
