Former Spurs midfielder, Jermaine Jenas, had some tough words for Arsenal in his column following our 1-1 draw against our north London rivals.

Although the 33-year-old acknowledges that Arsenal have had the better start to the campaign, he believes that last Sunday Spurs’ midfield ‘dominated’ the Gunners’. Not only this, but he believes that Victor Wanyama looks like a ‘far better purchase’ than Granit Xhaka at the moment.

“Arsenal may have been in better form of late, but we learned on Sunday that their central midfield is nowhere near as good as Tottenham’s,” the ex-player wrote in his Yahoo Sports column.

“Francis Coquelin had a decent game, but Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen, playing in a slightly deeper role, were dominant.

“When you look at the two major midfield signings the sides made in the summer, Wanyama looks a far better purchase than Granit Xhaka.”

Spurs did do a good job of chasing us down in the centre of the park, although I would argue that their back line was far better organised than ours and stood out far more than their midfield.

Ultimately, our failure to secure all three points on Sunday were only partly down to the way Spurs approached the game. The result in the end, I believe, was mainly down to our lacklustre display, inability to find the back of the net and poor luck.

It felt as if we could have been out there another 90 minutes and still not scored.
