Carl Jenkinson has described Arsenal as ‘riddled’ with world class players.

Interesting choice of words.

The right-back, who has had to step into Hector Bellerin’s shoes since the Spaniard picked up an injury during the north London derby, praised Alexis Sanchez recently. However, he also wanted to point out just how special other players are, claiming that there are numerous world class players in the squad.

“It’s not just Alexis, though, this squad is riddled with world-class players,” Jenkinson said.

“That’s the sort of environment I want to be in. I want to play with players of that character, of that stature, because I think it’ll bring the best out of me as a footballer.

“Who wouldn’t want to be on a football pitch with players like that? I’ve been watching the boys from the sidelines for what seems like an eternity now because I’d been out for so long, but to be back on the pitch and playing with the boys has been a long time coming and I’m just enjoying every moment of that now.”

In the past, Jenks has heaped praise onto the likes of Santi Cazorla and I’d definitely say that he comes under the bracket of ‘world class’. Mesut Ozil also does obviously, as well as the likes of Petr Cech and Laurent Koscielny, who are also up there.

I even think Bellerin is touching on world class, or at least will be in a couple of years. Jenks, on the other hand, does have a couple of years on the 21-year-old and is not world class. Can he do a job? At West Ham, sure. However, at Arsenal, it’s difficult to imagine him overtaking Bellerin in the pecking order ever.

Saying this, he brings other qualities to the squad and I’m sure most Arsenal fans appreciate him just as much…
