Arsenal have been linked with Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone, for a while now but we reportedly face competition from Inter Milan.

Although there were rumblings that the Gunners could be interested in bringing the La Liga boss in as Arsene Wenger’s successor, talk that he could be on his way north London within the next couple of years really hotted up when he reduced his contract with Atletico from 2020 to 2018.

Back in September, Simeone confirmed:

“Yes, I have reduced my contract with Atletico Madrid. It is best for the club.”

Since joining Atletico from Racing Club, where he used to play when he was a midfielder, Simeone has racked up a 63% win rate and has made the Champions League final twice, won the Europa League and La Liga. He’s also won La Liga Coach of the Year three times. Therefore, it’s hard to see how that will be ‘best’ for Atletico.

Meanwhile, as far as we know, Wenger’s contract still runs out at the end of the season and he’s not yet extended. However, even if he does sign on for another year, Simeone’s does run out until 2018.

Simeone does seem like a logical choice.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan are now also interested in signing the Argentine. In fact, they’re reportedly so keen, they’re willing to pay €50m.

Since parting ways with former Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini, in August, Inter have struggled to get a run of good results. Firstly, Frank de Boer only lasted three months and now Stefano Pioli is only expected to stay until the end of the season.

As it is, Inter sit down in ninth place in Serie A.

You can understand why Simeone, a former Inter player, seems like a good idea. However, could the lure of the Premier League, which Simeone’s reportedly very interested in, be too much?
