Olivier Giroud has been speaking to the media in France about his recent call-up back into the French squad and the injury that kept him on the sidelines.

Missing out last time around because of the toe injury that he picked up against PSG and aggravated against Chelsea, Big Sexy has returned to the Arsenal side with a massive bang.

Three goals in one-and-a-bit games means that he’s giving Arsene Wenger a very real, but pleasant, headache ahead of the game against Tottenham.

“On a collective level, the team has a lot flambé.

“Apart from the first loss in the league, we have went 15 to 16 games unbeaten.

“For my part, I came back late after Euro and I was not ready immediately. Then I got injured during the match against PSG and it got worse against Chelsea.

“It was frustrating. But the coach was behind me and he even said that he was appreciative of my character.

“It touched me, obviously.”

It would seem likely that Giroud will start the game against Spurs on  the bench as Wenger turns to his pacey forwards to put real pressure on a shaky Tottenham defence without Toby Alderweireld.

About his injury, Giroud continued, “At first I thought it was not much, it could be quickly treated.

“But actually, it was really compelling, especially where it was. Everyone asked me if my toe was fine but it was more complicated. I injured the flexor of the left big toe, which passes under the arch, and I was not right when I put the foot down. “

About being left out for France during the last round of internationals, he said, “Didier Deschamps called me for news, to ask if I could play and we decided in mutual agreement that it was better that I treat myself.

“Of course, it was hard not to go in selection but the group did very well.”
