Petr Cech appears to have tempted fate ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United in just 10 days.

On 19 November, Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United and on 8 November, it was reported that Alexis has picked up an injury while away with the Chile national team.

The very same day a short interview with Petr Cech was released in which he praises the fitness of the current Arsenal squad.

“The manager has this choice and I think we are benefitting so far,” the goalkeeper told Arsenal Player.

“Everybody looks fit and ready to go game-by-game.

“Last season everybody was talking about how far we can go, where we can go and we knew that we had a lot of qualities, that’s why we finished in the best position Arsenal had finished in a long time.

“But we missed a little bit to win the title, so this season we go step-by-step, we try to improve and then I think we are on the right way.

“I think we are as strong as anybody else in the league. The league is very competitive but I think we are one of the teams who has all the qualities to compete for the title and we know that.”

The worst part is that Alexis said something very similar in a piece also released 8 November.

Although I’m not traditionally a superstitious person, when it comes to football I can’t help but feel we’ve tempted fate a little.

Now, it looks very probable that our star player, Alexis, as well as our first choice right-back Hector Bellerin, are both out for the trip away to the Red Devils at a ground we find practically impossible to win at.

Hopefully, Cech is right and our strength in depth pays off.
