Yes, yes, I know, I’m only whinging about the referee because we didn’t win.

You clearly aren’t paying attention,. I whinge about referees all the time, regardless of the result.

During the game against Spurs on Sunday at the Emirates, Jan Vertonghen almost separated Granit Xhaka from his shirt in the penalty box:

It was not a subtle shirt pull.

But this was not deemed worthy of a penalty by Mark Clattenberg.

Did you ever think there would be a day you wished Mike Dean was the referee?

Nah, I’m only messing. All the penalties in the world wouldn’t make me wish for that spiteful little troll to be in charge.

But the decision was one of a few that Clatts got wrong on the day – not all of which should have went in Arsenal’s favour. Nacho Monreal clearly brought Christian Ericksen down on the D at the edge of the box, but he waived play away.

See, I can be impartial. If I want to be.

The main bone of contention for Arsenal fans was not for the penalty not given but the booking for Laurent Koscielny after a great tackle which clearly got the ball coupled with his refusal to book Victor Wanyama who Fellaini’d his way around the pitch in a Teflon shirt.

And if you didn’t see the slow-mo, here’s what Kos was booked for:

‘I don’t think there is any contact on the ball’ says Steve McManaman as you can clearly see Kos kicking the ball and the ball changing direction. It was a great tackle.

This is why you pay a monthly fee to BTSport – for punditry like this.

Speaking after the game, Arsene Wenger concurred that Wanyama should have been sent off.  “Wanyama was very lucky to stay on the pitch, of course,” Wenger said. “A few fouls, the elbow on Walcott for example. We have to cope with that.

“The referee makes the decisions. Still, nobody stopped us from scoring a second goal.”
