Hector Bellerin’s agent, Albert Botines, has informed the Guardian that his client is due to sign a contract extension.
The situation with Bellerin turned into a bit of an odd one recently when firstly the right-back seemed pretty sure that he would stay at Arsenal for a long time but then followed this up with another interview saying that he wanted to stay for a few more years.
During his initial comments, he also said that he was in no rush to sign a new contract because he’s happy in north London. Although this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. The contract part, not the happy part. His agent claims he’s very happy in fact, which is reassuring.
“We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign,” Botines told Guardian sport.
“Héctor is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.”
It’s fantastic that Bellerin is actually planning on staying and it appears the club are willing to offer him a bumper deal. It was speculated earlier in the season that we could double his current wages, which would bring him to around £50,000 a week.
Whether this is in the right ballpark we may never know.
