Arsenal had to be happy with just a point when they faced Tottenham at the Emirates on Sunday.

To be fair, the Gunners were well below par for the full match and it took everything Tottenham had to keep the scores level.

An own-goal from Kevin Wimmer, making his first start for Spurs, gave Arsenal the lead. It was probably just as well as they looked like they wouldn’t be able to find the net on their own at that point and that’s how things played out.

Tottenham’s equaliser came from the spot when Harry Kane slotted home. Laurent Koscielny’s tackle was lazy, although Coquelin was being fouled by Dembele before Kos fouled him.

When the dust settles, we might look back at this as a decent point given how poorly we played on the whole. Spurs came looking to lay down a marker and even with all they had, couldn’t take all he points.

Mark Clattenberg didn’t help things – booking Kos even though he got the ball while allowing Victor Wanyama to foul with impunity for the whole match. Quite how he ended the game without a single yellow when he could have easily had two or three is something only Clattenberg knows.

The Spurs fans will no doubt crow after this result – a draw for them at Arsenal is almost as good as a win.

As for Arsenal, they now have a few weeks to reflect on what they did wrong and why they really failed to get going in large parts of this game. The clinical touch they’ve shown in front of goal also deserted them.

Let’s hope only temporarily.
