Arsenal continue to be linked with Lazio defender, Stefan De Vrij, despite contradicting reports claiming that he’s still set to sign a new deal with the Serie A club.

Earlier in the month, it was reported that the Gunners were after the 24-year-old who’s out of contract with Lazio in 2018. However, even back then, the claims were prefaced by the rumour that it’s thought he’ll sign an extension.

The reports have continued to link the Dutchman to both Arsenal and Chelsea, although Elfvoetbal claims that his contract with Lazio doesn’t expire until 2019, which isn’t correct.

Repubblica [via Goal] claim that the talks over a new contract with his existing club have actually now stalled as the two London clubs continue to monitor the situation. Whereas still Fotbolltransfers insists that he’s about to renew.

It’s almost as if no one actually knows anything.

Regardless, his release clause was said to be around €35m, whereas his buyout clause appears to be €40m. An amount Arsene Wenger doesn’t need to spend on a defender right now.

However, with Per Mertesacker’s future at Arsenal uncertain, you never know.
