On Sunday the press were full of reports that Arsenal are on the verge of losing Alexis Sanchez after contract negotiations stalled with a number of clubs ready to pounce.

In truth, it is a nothing story that has dominated the headlines due to the fact we are in an international break and the papers know that Arsenal fans are easy to wind up.

Reading between the lines it seems like Arsenal and Sanchez have not yet come to an agreement over a new deal but that is pretty standard in negotiations of any sort – one side makes an opening offer, the other side rejects it and makes a counter offer, that’s rejected and so on until the two eventually meet somewhere near the middle.

Talks reportedly started back in August and the fact that they are still ongoing should give Arsenal fans enough hope that these stories are just sensationalism.

If we get to the summer and nothing has been agreed, then we can start to get worried.
