Alexis Sanchez has confirmed that Arsene Wenger was the man to decided that he should play as the main striker at Arsenal.

Last season, the Chilean had a great old time on the wing. Despite not starting the season fully fit due to his late involvement in Copa America, which his country won, he still managed 17 goals and 11 assists in 41 appearances.

This season, Wenger learned from his mistake and only used Olivier Giroud as a last resort since he was involved in the Euro 2016 final. He wasn’t fit and, at this point, we didn’t really have a standout choice to lead the line except for Alexis. Giroud then got injured and our hands were tied.

Although it became apparent that he wasn’t a lone striker like our big Frenchman, Alexis managed to adapt his movement and became a very effective first option.

“[The manager] is the one who decides, he’s the one who changes things around and decides where we play,” Alexis told Arsenal Player.

“He asked me to play there so I said fine – I looked up some videos on the internet to see how I needed to adjust my movement and I’ve been adapting since then.”

Alexis has scored eight and assisted seven goals so far in just 15 appearances.

Recently, Giroud threw his toys out of the pram because he wasn’t getting starts despite only just returning from injury and although he’s since backtracked, I’m sure Arsene will remember this.
