Jack Wilshere has rubbished Jamie Redknapp’s assertions that the midfielder’s time is over at Arsenal.

Redknapp, egged on by Tim Sherwood, made the claim from nowhere over the weekend in yet another case of him engaging his mouth while missing a brain.

“I don’t know where he got that from,” Wilshere said.

“He is entitled to his opinion. I’m just trying to get back to what I was, enjoying my football and playing week in, week out and the Tottenham game was a massive step towards that.

“I’ve not really thought about it so how other people can comment on it I don’t know.”

It would seem highly unlikely that Wilshere’s time at Arsenal is over.

Both he and Wenger are keen to have a fully fit and functioning Wilshere as a part of this team for years to come.

Of course, it could be that Jack is never able to truly overcome his weak ankles, but we are nowhere close to that point. Had it not been for the player deciding to leave, we’d be nursing Diaby through his latest operation as he faces another gruelling recovery that will keep him out for at least four months.

Wenger does not discard players lightly and after a number of seasons in which he was unable to play because of injuries, Jack has more than a little unfinished business at the club.

Speaking about the game at the weekend which saw Jack complete 90 minutes for the first time in two years, Wilshere added, “It’s nice to get the full game. It’ll help me mentally and physically of course. I’m going to feel better for it next week.

“I’m working hard in training but you can’t get that match fitness unless you’re playing games and to play 90 minutes in the Premier League week-in-week-out is hard, especially nowadays as the intensity levels keep going up and up and the speed of the play gets quicker and quicker.

“When you play game by game, you start to get your confidence back and you start to try more things. I feel as though I’m getting my first five yards of power back and when I have that I can do more things with the ball.

“I’m just trying to get back to where I was, enjoying my football, playing week-in-week-out and the game against Spurs was a massive step towards that.”
