Arsenal are being linked once again with a move for Roma’s Kosta Manolas, a player they tried to land in the summer.

In fact, if I remember correctly, it was Roma’s behaviour around the Manolas issue that saw Arsenal block Jack Wilshere’s loan to the Italian side after the player agreed to move there.

So have they forgiven Roma?

Who knows.

It’s October and we are not buying another centreback in the January window unless something catastrophic happens to Mustafi or Koscielny. That means no action will be taken until the summer and a lot can change between now and then.

Per Mertesacker could sign a new deal.

A young player could explode on to the scene like Alex Iwobi did last season.

Wenger might find the defender inside Gabriel.

Rob Holding could get more game time.

In fact, when you look at the central defenders already at the club, a move for another one, even if Per does leave, would probably not be at the top of Arsene Wenger’s priority list.

Also, you have to consider if Manolas would come to the club to sit on the bench, third choice behind Kos and Mustafi.

That would seen unlikely.

There’s nothing to see here in this rumour, at least not at this point and it has likely all stemmed from one reporter seeing a story about Manolas being ‘slow’ to renew with the Italians. S/he has then put one and one together to come up with some bull****.
