Arsene Wenger once again spoke about Granit Xhaka’s red card that he was given against Swansea at the weekend, pointing out that Arsenal are not responsible for what happened before he arrived.

During the pre-Ludogorets press conference, the Wenger was probed on Xhaka’s history of red cards. Since the start of last season, the midfielder has picked up more than any other player in the top five European leagues.

However, the boss was very quick to point out that he’s only been at Arsenal since the beginning of this season. We’re not responsible for what he did elsewhere. He’s only received one while with us and even that one was very questionable.

“We are not responsible for the red cards he got somewhere else,” Wenger said.

“He made a foul that could have got him a yellow card. It was not meant to hurt anybody. It was just a late tackle.

“I feel he is intelligent enough to analyse that as well.”

The tackle was at least a yellow. That much everyone agrees on. And if Xhaka commits those kind of fouls that’s the risk he runs, which impacts the team as a whole.

Hopefully, he’ll learn from this.
