When asked about whether there was interest from other clubs for Theo Walcott during the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger said that he didn’t even speak to anyone because he wasn’t ready to let the forward go.

In what actually comes across as a very sentimental comment, the boss revealed that despite Theo’s previous form and injury woes, he wasn’t quite ready to give up on him.

Walcott has now scored seven goals in nine appearances this season. This is just two less than he scored during the entire last term. Unreal.

“He lets the passion come out of his body,” Wenger said during his pre-Ludogorets presser.

“He plays with more freedom, lets his heart feelings come out.

“He is less calculating. He plays with more desire. He is less restricted.”

He added, “I have not spoken to anybody [during the summer] because I was not ready to let him go.”

The England international is the first to admit that this change isn’t magic. He’s had to change a lot of things about his life, including the way he trains and approaches games, but it’s definitely working.

Wenger has every right to feel smug considering he stood by Theo when others didn’t. However, I don’t think he’s the type. If anything, he’s probably just watching the 10 years he’s put into this player, who he signed at the age of 16, come to fruition.
