Arsenal have reportedly brought in a fascinating new measure at London Colney to reduce the risk of injuries: AirFibr grass.

The 100% natural turf, which is anchored in with “artificial rootzone formed with sand, synthetic microfibers and granulated natural cork”, is said to reduce the chances of injuries by 20-40%, according to Natural Turf, the company who make it [via the Sun].

Apparently, Arsenal have been testing it out on the goalkeeper’s pitch for two years before deciding to lay it throughout in April of this year.

Although the Gunners were the first Premier League club to adopt the technology, the Sun claims that Lyon and Real Madrid have already been using this turf for a while.

Now, it seems West Ham have followed in our footsteps and have also been using AirFibr turf for a couple of months.

The weather resistant turf is said to be a lot more comfortable than regular playing surfaces. It also won’t get muddy and won’t get kicked out of shape.

It seems like a sensible plan. We’ve been moaning about our injuries woes for years, at least we’re doing something about it.

Let’s hope it works!
