It turns out that Laurent Koscielny was actually crucial for France’s one and only goal against the Netherlands on Monday night.

The centreback intercepted the ball in France’s own half and without even a moment’s hesitation passed it forward to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet, who then laid it off for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba to thump (via a deflection) into the net.

That’s right, the pre-assist is back.

Was it a scrappy goal? Yes.

Was it poor goalkeeping? Yes.

Was it terrible defending? Certainly.

It was all of these things. But it was also France’s only goal. They now top their World Cup Qualification Group (level with Sweden) and are three points above their opposition, the Netherlands.

To sum up, Kos is amazing.
