Joel Campbell won and scored an injury-time penalty to give Costa Rica a dramatic 4-3 win over Russia in a friendly that took place on Sunday.

In what was the first match at the new Krasnodar stadium located in the south of the country, things never really went to plan for the 34,000 expectant spectators in the ground as their visitors rushed to a two-goal lead before the half hour mark thanks to Randall Azofeifa and Bryan Ruiz.

Russia pulled one back through Samedov before halftime, but just two minutes after the break Costa Rica had their two-goal lead restored thanks to a Vasili Berezutski own goal.

A minute later Russia brought the scores to 2-3 through Artem Dzyuba and the same player looked as if he might have salvaged a draw for the hosts with just over an hour on the clock.

Then, as the game entered injury time with the scores still level, Joel Campbell, who only came on after 70 minutes, was fouled in the box after some great skills and the Arsenal man stepped up to give Costas Rica the win.
