Theo Walcott has looked like a different player this season when in an Arsenal shirt but he was unable to transfer that form into an impressive England performance, coming in as one of the lowest rated players from the side’s 2-0 win on Saturday.

Struggling to get involved in the game, Theo often found himself bypassed by his Liverpool and Tottenham teammates.

Looking lost at times, it wasn’t clear if he was just not on the same wavelength as the players around him or if they were consciously ignoring him, but his positioning often meant he was never a viable option for a pass.

Forcing the Malta keeper, Andrew Hogg, to make an excellent save, for the most part, he was ineffective.

Here’s how the main papers and websites rated his performance.

I’m not entirely sure what the people at the Express were smoking as they watched the game and from some of the other reports it is clear that they have not been watching Theo too closely at Arsenal this season.

All scores out of 10. Where a website gave ratings out of 5, these have simply been doubled to keep stats uniform.
