A report in Turkey is claiming that Arsenal are considering a move for FC Porto’s left-back, Alex Telles, a player whose agent linked with Chelsea and PSG last summer.

The first thing that comes to mind is why is a Turkish site involved in any of this? Well that would be because he was sold to Porto by Galatasaray for just £5.53m this summer and after only a few months, figures of around €20m are being talked about.

It would make sense that Arsenal are on the lookout for a left-back. Nacho Monreal can’t go on forever, and in a footballing age when the speed and stamina of your fullbacks is vital to maintaining a high tempo, he’s getting on a bit.

Telles is a versatile player who can play anywhere on the left, kind of like Kieran Gibbs these days when he gets a chance.

In summer 2015, Chelsea considered a bid for the player with Telles’ agent, Fernando Otto, saying at the time, “There are clubs that are making offers although none have been official and he could play for Chelsea and PSG without using a foreign player space due to having an Italian passport but he is happy at Galatasaray.”

A player possessing a great cross as well as a sweet set-piece delivery, he’s also noted for his concentration levels during the game as well as his ability to make important interceptions.

Having just moved it would be strange for him to move again just 12 months later, but not so strange as to be unheard of.

An interesting one that might just be worth keeping an eye on.
