Thierry Henry appears to have sympathy for Manchester United’s £89m signing, Paul Pogba.

The former forward has compared himself to the ex-Juventus man, claiming that when he initially joined the Premier League back in 1999, he didn’t exactly hit the ground running either.

In some ways, I can definitely understand where he’s coming from. Both signed from Juventus for a fee that others thought was too much. They were similar ages. Okay, there’s £78m difference between their prices but still, I get it.

During his first eight games at Arsenal, Henry scored zero. Zilch. However, he ended that season with 26.

In eight Premier League starts, Pogba has scored once and, considering his price, it’s attracted some attention.

“I think Jose Mourinho is always looking his best eleven, his best system,” Henry explained to Goal.com [via le10Sport].

“Talk about Paul Pogba, we speak of a quality player. When I arrived in the Premier League, I did not play well in the beginning. Many players do not play well in the beginning. It’s a process, but nowadays, the press and the fans do not give much time for players to adapt. Pogba has to adapt.

“We know all the qualities he possesses. I think it has something to offer. That’s my personal opinion. Then it depends on Mourinho, he should know where he can play and where it can not. It’s not easy, Mourinho has also just arrived and he tries to learn about his player.”

I can see why Henry would sympathise with the 23-year-old. After all, he didn’t ask for United to fork out £89m for him. Plus, I do think rivals fans may be a little quick to judge. However, whether the France international suddenly improves and scores 25 more goals this season… I’m not so sure.
