Harry Redknapp has written a column for The London Evening Standard in which he tells us exactly what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants – without even speaking to the player.

The former Tottenham manager claims that the Ox is going to want massive wages to sign a new deal with Arsenal, that Arsenal can’t rotate the Ox with Alexis or Ozil because they’re in the last 18 months of their contract, that the Ox need to settle on one position and that Iwobi’s arrival from nowhere (or, as other people like to call it, the ‘youth ranks’) has hurt the England man.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday recently, the Ox already explained at length about his position, saying he’s focusing on being a winger due to the number of midfielders Arsenal already have at the club but that he honestly doesn’t mind where he plays. Redknapp, however, says, “Arsene Wenger sees him as a central midfielder but he hasn’t played there very often.

“He would surely like to bed one position down rather than being a jack of all trades so he probably needs a run in one position now to help him produce his best on a consistent basis.”

2 positions. Jack of all trades.

As for the rest of ‘Arry’s assertions, they come out of his head and nowhere else.

Sure, it’s likely that Iwobi’s arrival on the scene will be of concern to the Ox, but he was injured when the youngster was making his breakthrough, and he plays on the left while the Ox plays on the right.

As for the Ox’s wages, there’s no doubt he’ll want a pay-rise – but then most new deals come with one anyway. There is nothing to hint at him being a diva or, as Redknapp says, “The contract situation — where he has less than two years left — will  bring things to a head. If he isn’t doing it for Arsenal, they can’t let his contract run out because he will be worth good money to someone. But if they offer him a new deal, he is going to want big money and will he have done enough to deserve that?”

Redknapp also asserts that the Ox “won’t settle if he thinks he’ll be dropped after one bad game, so Arsene has to give him a prolonged run in the team.” Wenger can be accused of many things, dropping a player after ‘one bad game’ is certainly not one of them.
