Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s recent form looks set to give Arsene Wenger a headache when it comes to choosing the starting XI against Sunderland.

Speaking after the Reading game, which the Ox performed well in, scoring a brace, the boss spoke about how the winger isn’t far away from the starting XI and brought up the fact that both he and Theo Walcott “can play on both flanks”.

“[Alex] is not a long way away from the starting XI because he played against Ludogorets, he played here which was expected, but Ludogorets was a very important game,” Wenger said.

“He came on against Middlesbrough on Saturday and I feel that he is regularly involved.”

Alex Iwobi has been holding onto the left-wing position in the Premier League since the beginning of the season with Walcott returning to form on the right. However, with Iwobi’s finishing not exactly where it should be and the Ox seemingly unable to stop scoring right now, the 20-year-old may see himself dropped to the bench.

It’s not often that we have so many talented players vying for almost every position and I imagine, after years of having to get the most out of a depleted squad, it’s a welcome problem for Wenger to have.
